Postal Matches
The USRA Winter League Postal Matches will be starting soon.
The Holyoke Revolver Club will once again be entering teams in the .45 Slowfire League. It is a five week league consisting of teams from all over the country competing in brackets determined by team scores. Shooters of all abilities have a chance to win medals in their bracket.
Teams consist of two or three shooters with the top two scores counting toward the team total for each week. The shooters will fire five rounds at each of five targets with a five minute time limit per target.
Shooters wishing to compete in this season’s matches should contact Dave Wallis at 527-2819 or at HRCGOV@aol.com. The fee is $15.00 and you must be a member of the USRA. Membership applications are available at the club or at http://www.usra1.org
The
United States Revolver Association was organized in 1900 as an offshoot of the
National Rifle Association. The founders realized a need for an organization to
promote pistol and revolver competition, to set uniform rules and maintain
records. Early competitions using .22 caliber handguns were held shoulder to
shoulder with the course of fire consisting of fifty shots fired slowfire at
fifty yards. As the sport grew, it was decided to offer Postal Matches in order
to allow shooters from around the country that would otherwise need to travel
great distances to participate. Over the years, a number of different leagues
were introduced to include centerfire and .45 caliber handguns as well as free
pistols and air pistols. The National Match Course was also offered in .22,
centerfire and .45 caliber leagues.
