The United States Revolver Association:
In the United States prior to the year 1900, the revolver shots of each locality made their own rules governing the sport, and there was no organized body having national jurisdiction there was an utter lack of uniformity as to conditions, targets, firearms, etc.

American shots had often expressed a wish to measure their skill in an international contest. French marksmen were also desirous of arranging such a contest. A challenge was received from the revolver shots of France, of a wish for an international match. A number of revolver enthusiasts met at Conlins Gallery in New York and issued a call to the revolver shots of the country asking them to join in forming a national revolver association. Replies were received from thirteen states, and thirty five gentlemen responded in person to the invitation. The idea met with instant favor, and at a meeting held March fifth, 1900, and the United States Revolver Association was formed.
