The M1 Garand.......
The M1 Garand (officially designated as United States Rifle,
Caliber .30, M1)was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued to the infantry of any nation. Called "the greatest battle implement ever devised" by General George S. Patton, the Garand was used heavily by U.S. forces in World War II, the Korean War, and, to a limited extent, the Vietnam War.
This course includes both classroom learning and range time. Students will recieve a copy of the United States Army Marksmanship Unit's Service Rifle Marksmanship Guide. In the afternoon students will shoot a National Match course of fire. M1 Garand rifles will be provided, however if anyone wants to bring their own they are more than welcome to do so. Upon successful completion of the course, students who join a CMP affiliated club will be eligible to purchase rifles and ammunition from the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
